Intendente Alvear, School No. 196, Organic Vegetable Garden “Armando Pepa”

With the support of a group of sponsors, and the effort of the school’s authorities and teachers, we were able to undertake this great project which was subsequently replicated in other towns.

Through this community vegetable garden, we want children to learn a new trade, and, in addition to studying, to have the time and physical space to till the soil and see the products they can get if they work hard and persevere.

With the guidance and dedication shown from the very beginning by their teacher, Roberto Lucas, the children created the garden and keep it day after day. More than 140 students have learnt to cultivate the soil, and with the profits from the sale of vegetables, they can re-invest in seeds and tools to continue planting, instruments needed by the school, trainers and school overalls for disadvantaged children.

Similarly to other initiatives, in this case we paid tribute to a great person who lived in our town – the Model Vegetable Garden was named “Armando Pepa.”
